Kuaishou and NBA Reach Multi-Year Strategic Cooperation Partnership, to Explore New Model for Monetizing Content Recreation

Kuaishou, a short video sharing platform and Douyin’s major competitor in China, held a strategic cooperation conference alongside NBA China on Monday in Beijing, announcing that the two sides have reached a multi-year strategic cooperation partnership.

Under the arrangement, Kuaishou will become the first media partner of NBA China for content recreation, as well as NBA’s official short video platform and NBA video content creation community. The two sides will conduct a series of cooperations in the fields of commercializing content recreation, live-streaming e-commerce and offline activities.

Ma Xiaofei, President of NBA China, said: “I hope that our cooperation will inspire Chinese fans to create more innovative content, and we also look forward to promoting excellent works.”

At present, NBA and each team within it already have official accounts on Kuaishou. Focusing on NBA games and Kuaishou sports ecology, the two sides will carry out in-depth cooperation in content, brand commercialization, live-streaming e-commerce and others. NBA will provide a large amount of game materials for high-quality creators on the Kuaishou platform. In addition, Kuaishou will also open the exclusive content creation background for creators, grant copyright content, and encourage them to make derivative works.

At the same time, with the background of content creators set up by Kuaishou and NBA, creators will be able to realize commercialization through the recreation of high-quality content. Kuaishou will provide promotional resources and commercialization opportunities for excellent works, and jointly empower creators to monetize with platform commercial resources and NBA copyright content.

Furthermore, the two sides will explore live-streaming e-commerce and other fields through a series of offline activities and exclusive self-made programs.

Previously, Kuaishou has cooperated with a number of top global sports IPs, such as NFL, World Snooker Championship, Copa América, Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games and Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
