BEIJING, Nov. 4 - China's Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) has reinforced its position as the world's leading spectral survey facility, having released a cumulative 28.07 million spectra and 11.59 million stellar parameter sets as of October 2025.
This National Major Science Infrastructure continues to set global benchmarks in data volume and accessibility. The archive has supported research by over 1,800 scientists from 300 institutions worldwide, generating approximately 170,000 GB of data downloads and 3.73 million website queries.
Facing new international competition from emerging sky survey projects, the LAMOST team has continuously enhanced its scientific capabilities through technological innovation. Critical breakthroughs include the domestic development of specialized wide-spectrum optical fibers for signal transmission and displacement actuators for the active optics system - core components previously dependent on imports.
These advancements not only improve LAMOST's survey efficiency but also provide crucial expertise for China's development of future, larger-aperture astronomical telescopes. The progress demonstrates China's growing capability in independent innovation within astronomical instrumentation and big data astrophysics.
