The award, which Lazada received last Friday (May3), comes on the back of the latest “App Annie” ranking which indicates that Lazada has retained its top spot throughout the first quarter (Q1) of this year.

Launched in 2012, Lazada is an online shopping and selling destination with operations in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. With 300 million SKUs available, Lazada offers the widest range of products in various categories ranging from beauty, fashion, and consumer electronics to household goods, toys, sports equipment and groceries. Focused on customer experience, it offers comprehensive customer care and hassle-free returns through its own first and last mile delivery arm supported by approximately 100 logistics partners. Lazada Group is majority owned by Alibaba Group Holding Limited (NYSE: BABA).

“The ASEAN region is one of the fastest-growing consumer markets in the world and is unique in that every member country is a mobile first and in many cases a mobile only market. This puts ASEAN on a trajectory to become one of the most important mobile economies in the world and justifies its distinct recognition in the Top Publishers Award,” said Cindy Deng, App Annie’s Asia-Pacific managing director. “We congratulate Lazada, a company that has transformed the mobile environment with leading e-commerce innovations in such an important and fast-growing region,” she added.

App Annie, a leading global provider of mobile market data, introduced its Top Publisher Awards eight years ago to acknowledge the top mobile app publishers by global iOS and Google Play revenue. The annual award, in recent years, has also expanded to include app publishers, celebrating their achievements in different metrics and industries. In 2017, it started to recognize the top publishers from the ASEAN region by global downloads and monthly active users.

“This victory as the number-one shopping app in Southeast Asia is testament to our commitment to redefine the online shopping experience. We will continue creating more value for our shoppers and sellers in the region through leading e-commerce infrastructure investment and innovative engaging features in our app,” said Lazada Group Chief Marketing Officer Mary Zhou.

In March, Lazada set new records during its seventh birthday marketing campaign, employing its technological expertise and infrastructure to introduce new in-app games, and live stream performances by British pop-star Dua Lipa and top regional artists across six countries through the app. The performances drew 12 million views on the Lazada app and on television (in Indonesia and Vietnam) and a total of 318 million website visits over the weeklong celebration. Shoppers also used the app as frequently as six times a day, spending up to 18 minutes on every session.
