EV maker Leapmotor has launched two premium models and announced its ambition to become a "world-class intelligent automaker." The move marks a strategic push into the higher-priced vehicle segment.
At its 10th anniversary event, Leapmotor reviewed its decade-long journey and announced its strategy for the next ten years, alongside the debut of two new flagship models.
Founder, Chairman, and CEO Zhu Jiangming said Leapmotor has achieved “full-stack in-house development,” with 65% of core components developed internally, giving the company an estimated 10% cost advantage over competitors. Supported by its value-for-money positioning, Leapmotor’s monthly sales have surpassed 70,000 vehicles, placing it among the leading Chinese EV startups. Zhu said the company’s next goal is to “become a world-class intelligent automaker.”
The company officially launched its high-end D-Series, introducing two flagship models: the D19 full-size SUV and the D99 flagship MPV, aiming to move into the RMB 300,000 (approx. USD 42,857) price segment.
Leapmotor said the D19 balances emotional appeal with high performance. Interior highlights include premium leather seats, aviation-grade reading lights, and an in-cabin oxygen system. On the intelligence front, the vehicle is powered by dual Qualcomm 8797 chips delivering over 1,280 TOPS of computing power, paired with a large-model cockpit and VLA-based intelligent driving system. Both extended-range AWD and pure EV versions achieve 0–100 km/h acceleration in the 3-second range.
The D99 MPV, also built on the D-Series platform, offers both extended-range and pure EV variants. Leapmotor describes its goal as delivering a “first-class seat for every passenger.”
