Lei Jun says Xiaomi’s monthly smartphone shipment in Q4 will exceed 10 million

Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s founder and CEO, said in Weibo that the global shipment of Xiaomi’s smartphones exceeded 10 million and that the company aims at 10 million-odd smartphones shipment each month in the fourth quarter.

“It is the first time Xiaomi shipped over 10 million smartphones in a month, which is a milestone for our company.” Lei Jun added.

However, he also said that the smartphone supply is still in severe shortage. Numerous Xiaomi’s affiliate phone brands are in a short supply, so Xiaomi will strive to increase sales in the fourth quarter.

Some insiders predicted that Xiaomi’s total shipment will surpass that of the last quarter—23.16 million smartphones.

Digitimes Research, an affiliate of Taiwan’s media—Digitimes, pointed out that Xiaomi became the second largest smartphone manufacturer, second only to Huawei and followed by vivo, OPPO, and Apple.

Xiaomi is also ranked second in Indian smartphone market, with its market share reaching 14% in the second quarter. Though Xiaomi falls behind Sumsung, it is streets ahead of Indian home-grown brands such as Micromax and Karbonn Mobiles.

Recently, Xiaomi released a dual-lens Android One smartphone named Mi A1 to increase its market share in India. Meanwhile, Xiaomi also ships Mi A1 to Taiwan where the price is around 230 U.S dollars.
