Lei Jun Teases Xiaomi Smartphone With Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1
Lei Jun, Chairman and CEO of Xiaomi, posted on a Chinese social media platform on Tuesday that the name of Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is too low-key to reveal that it’s far more than a “small upgrade”. He added that users can wait for reviews after its mass production. In May of this year, he announced that Xiaomi‘s phone of the year carrying the Snapdragon 8+ is expected to be released in July.
In the comments of the post, Lei Jun also mentioned that Xiaomi had been specially debugging the new chipset for quite a while and that it would never be released with bugs. Besides, aiming at solving the problem of this generation of SoCs, he said, “Wait to see the results”.
The new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is an enhanced version of the Snapdragon 8 mobile platform, which adopts a three-cluster architecture of super-large core Cortex-X2 plus the large core of the A710 and the small core A510. The highest main frequency of the CPU core is increased to 3.2 GHz. Compared with the Snapdragon 8, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 also adopts the TSMC 4 nm process.
