Lei Jun: Xiaomi Is Not in A Hurry to Build Charging Piles, First Focus on Making the Car Well

At the “Leijun’s Co-Driver” live streaming event in the Pearl River Delta, Xiaomi founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun stated that although Xiaomi has established some charging stations, there are currently no plans for large-scale construction.

He pointed out that Xiaomi‘s primary task at present is to focus on car manufacturing, aiming to make the Xiaomi SU7 the electric vehicle with the best compatibility and convenience with public charging stations.

Lei Jun believes that the current number of public charging stations is sufficient. Xiaomi has tested 70,000 public charging stations, leading to improvements in hundreds of issues, significantly enhancing the compatibility and usability of the charging stations.

In March of this year, Lei Jun announced at the Xiaomi Auto launch event that Xiaomi is building its own supercharging network (the first batch is being gradually rolled out in cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Hangzhou), using a 600kW liquid-cooled supercharging solution.

In addition to public charging piles, Xiaomi has also launched home charging piles, claiming ‘one-button lid opening, plug and charge,’ and supports OTA upgrades. The 7kW charging power version is priced at 3999 yuan, while the 11kW charging power version is priced at 5999 yuan.

According to Xiaomi‘s official introduction, the Xiaomi SU7 has conducted over 70,000 charging tests during previous road tests, and has gradually optimized more than 500 charging compatibility issues in collaboration with different manufacturers. It claims to have tested over 200 different models of charging piles, totaling 18,900, achieving compatibility with over 99% of third-party charging piles.
