LGBTQ Platform BlueCity Releases First Social Responsibility Report, Highlights Efforts in HIV Prevention, R&D, Privacy Protection
BlueCity Holdings (Nasdaq: BLCT), the owner of Chinese gay dating platform Blued and LGBTQ online community, Wednesday released its Corporate Social Responsibility Report (CSR) of 2019, as well as it’s 2019 Environmental, Social and Governance Report (ESG). The newly-listed Nasdaq company highlighted the efforts they have put into HIV prevention, research and development (R&D), users’ privacy, illegal content monitoring and preventing usage by underage users.
“We have always believed in the power of technology and understood the responsibility tied to it,” said Baoli Ma, Founder, Chairman and CEO of BlueCity in a press release. “We will continue to improve our products and governance to meet the needs of the underserved LGBTQ global community with both commercial services and our public interest initiatives.”
As China’s largest LGBTQ platform with its gay dating app Blued attracting 49 million registered users in nearly 210 countries and regions, BlueCity has driven progress towards a diverse and inclusive space for its local and global users. The latter represented over 49% of the app’s monthly active users (MAUs) as of March 2020.
Danlan Public Interest, BlueCity’s public welfare division on AIDS prevention, has enlisted more than 300 volunteers and consulted services to over 50,000 persons through its online “Blued public interest platform,” according to the company.
The company invested 130 million yuan ($18.7 million) in R&D in 2019. By investing significant resources in information security and users’ privacy, the platform limits personal data collection, storage, and usage from both users and internal employees.

It also strictly limits people under the lawful age from using its services.
BlueCity has made the list of China’s top 50 internet companies for its CSP performance in 2019, according to a report released by China CSR Research Center.
