Meituan Co-founder to Retire From Management Role
Meituan Dianping CEO Wang Xing issued a company announcement via email on January 20 detailing new strategies for the coming year and a management restructuring. The announcement stipulated that the company’s co-founder and Senior Vice-President Wang Huiwen will retire from his management role as of December 2020. Wang Huiwen will continue to serve as an honorary lifetime consultant involved in strategic planning and talent development.

Wang was heavily involved in the early stage marketing and branding of Meituan during the company’s nascent stages in the food delivery space back in 2013. Wang Huiwen talked about the difficulties of maintaining a work-life balance given his demanding role at Meituan.
Vice-Presidents Li Shubin and Guo Qing will be promoted to the senior team. Li joined at the end of last year and will take charge of Meituan’s platforms division. Guo joined Meituan in 2014 and is responsible for hotel and ticketing services along with short-term rentals.
The management restructuring is aimed at fostering new talent in the senior positions at Meituan to prepare the company for the next stage of growth.
