Meituan Launches Drone Delivery Service in Beijing with First Route at the Great Wall

On August 16, Meituan Drones launched its first regular drone delivery route at the Badaling Great Wall in Beijing. This service caters to tourists near the landing site, offering essential items and emergency aid, marking a significant advancement in drone delivery within Beijing. This extends Meituan‘s drone services to all four major first-tier cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen.

The delivery route’s landing point is located at the South Nine City Tower, a newly opened section of the Badaling Great Wall since late 2023. To preserve its natural beauty, there are no commercial facilities in this area. This means tourists need to walk nearly half an hour to replenish supplies like drinking water. However, Meituan drones can make this journey from the base of the Great Wall to the South Nine City Tower in just five minutes, traversing nine beacon towers.

These drones carry essential items such as sun umbrellas and cooling patches to help with heatstroke prevention. They also have a Meituan emergency kit at the take-off point, equipped with disinfectant, saline, anti-vertigo medicine, and other emergency supplies for those in need. Furthermore, at the end of each operating day, the drones assist in maintaining the scenic area by transporting waste to designated recycling locations.
