Mercedes-Benz and Geely Team Up to Create Smart Concept #1: New Spy Photo Leaked
Chinese media outlet im4S exposed some spy photos suspected of being a production version of the smart Concept #1 on Wednesday. The car is reportedly built based on Geely’s SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture), and is expected to become available in the Chinese market in 2022, as well as sold to overseas markets.
The new smart Concept #1 was first showed at the Munich Auto Show on September 6. At that time, it adopted the design of rear-hinged doors, but from the spy photos, the production version should restore the traditional simplified rear doors.
The new car is very similar to the smart Concept #1, with a more traditional design for the lower grille and a further reduction in the size of the rim.
The interior adopts a four-seat layout, and the center console is a 12.8-inch suspended LCD screen, which has a large number of annular elements in details and brings a very bright field of view width due to the panoramic awning.

The new car is built based on Geely’s SEA platform, equipped with a powerful central computer that controls the four main domains: infotainment, driver assistance systems, electromobility-specific functions and the electric/electronic vehicle architecture (E/E architecture). In addition, because of the dynamic OTA software updates, more than 75% of all ECUs can be updated remotely on an ongoing basis.
