Mercedes-Benz Will Adopt the Momenta Light Mapping Urban Area Solution

The Mercedes-Benz battery electric CLA model has confirmed to use the NVIDIA Orin chip, and will be equipped with an advanced driving assistance system provided by Momenta that does not rely on high-precision maps, achieving urban navigation assisted driving functions. This car is planned to start production in April 2025.

Traditional luxury brands like Mercedes-Benz have a slower pace in the development of intelligent driving technology. Their latest progress in intelligent driving still remains at the end of 2023 with the “new E-Class long-wheelbase version supporting high-speed navigation assisted driving function.” In 2024 when intelligent driving technology is advancing rapidly in China, Mercedes-Benz’s sales and market share are showing a declining trend, with intelligence becoming one of its weaknesses as it continues its luxury positioning.

The new battery electric CLA from Mercedes-Benz will become the first model in the Mercedes lineup to feature urban navigation assistance driving functions. The CLA is one of the important models in Mercedes’ coupe product line, targeting a younger, more fashionable and sporty demographic with higher acceptance of advanced intelligent driving features.

The report stated that the new CLA model is the first to offer a battery electric version. It is based on the MMA platform, which is Mercedes-Benz’s second pure electric platform, supporting an 800V electrical architecture and a maximum charging power of 250kW. The cabin will be equipped with Mercedes’ self-developed MB.OS operating system and introduce a large language model.
