NIO and UNDP Join Hands For Ecological Conservation in China’s Protected Areas and National Parks
On August 15, Chinese EV maker NIO and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed a cooperation agreement in Beijing as the partner of the Clean Parks platform. UNDP is to join hands with NIO to help with the environmental protection of nature reserves, building up youth awareness, and co-developing of standards for ecological investment.
Clean Parks, a global ecological co-construction initiative started by NIO in alignment with the brand’s guideline philosophy of Blue Sky Coming, is the world’s first open platform started by a car company in pursuit of supporting the construction and protection of national parks and nature reserves.
NIO will provide smart electric vehicles and build clean energy infrastructure for national parks and nature reserves, so as to build a clean and low-carbon energy circulation system while protecting the authenticity and integrity of ecosystems.
UNDP will further leverage its expertise in the field of sustainable business investment and allocate resources to help establish necessary standards, guidelines or catalogues for ecological investments and biodiversity protection together with NIO.
As part of this initiative, NIO will also work with UNDP to support youth entrepreneurship by encouraging young innovators to explore business solutions to advance biodiversity conservation and ecological protection.
Among the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the collaboration of NIO and UNDP focuses on 7 SDGs in particular, including affordable and clean energy, climate action, life below water and life on land.

UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories on conservation and climate change. In October, 2021, the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, known as COP15, kicked off in Kunming, China, as the first global conference convened by the United Nations. “With part two of the COP15 coming up in December, this partnership couldn’t be more timely,” says Beate Trankmann, UNDP Resident Representative in China. “Ecological protection and biodiversity conservation are high on the global and national agenda and I look forward to this partnership contributing to these priorities.”
