NIO Recruits Talents for Overseas Manufacturing Jobs

Chinese electric vehicle maker NIO is recruiting a number of employees for manufacturing-related positions the U.S., suggesting that the company is planning to build a new factory in the U.S., Chinese media outlet Yicai reported on Friday. However, a company spokesperson made clear today that the company would not disclose any information about the establishment of new factories in the U.S.

The positions NIO is recruiting include experts in a range of fields, including overseas manufacturing park planning expert, vehicle body technology, overseas planning and infrastructure, overseas logistics project managers, among others. The job description of overseas manufacturing park planning shows that candidates are required to have completed 2 or more site plans, at least one of which have been finished in the U.S. Appliers also need to be familiar with U.S. state policies, design specifications and planning approval processes.

“NIO may have plans to build a factory in the U.S., which needs its director to understand the policies of the many U.S. states and participate in the site selection of factories in the U.S.,” said a person who has participated in the previous construction of the company’s domestic automobile factories.

At present, NIO has set up an autonomous driving R&D center and a software development team in San Jose, California and is recruiting planning and infrastructure experts or senior analysts in the area. The job requirements include knowledge of the regulatory process of industrial real estate.

According to Experian, in the first quarter, the sales of new energy vehicles in the US increased by 60% year-on-year. In the luxury car market, Tesla’s sales volume surpassed that of traditional luxury car companies such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz, ranking first, reflecting the rapid increase in the acceptance of electric vehicles in the US market.

Since 2021, NIO is accelerating its exploration of overseas markets. After entering the Norwegian market in 2021, according to the plan, the company will enter many other European countries including Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark in 2022. By 2025, NIO plans to provide products and services in 25 countries and regions globally, including the US, Japan, and South Korea.

At present, NIO is choosing to export whole vehicles to its European markets as its two manufacturing bases in China are located in Hefei, Anhui Province.
