NIO to Release ES7 Model at End of May
Qin Lihong, co-founder and president of Chinese new energy vehicle firm NIO, announced on Wednesday that its brand-new ES7 model will be released at the end of May. Qin previously introduced this car as a mid-to-large SUV featuring the firm’s NT2.0 platform and delivering an extremely comfortable experience. The ES7 is said to be designed for competition with the long-wheelbase BMW X5.
In a financial report teleconference last week, Shanghai-based NIO announced plans to release its first SUV, the ES7, based on its self-developed NT2 platform in the near future. This new model is positioned in the mid-to-large high-end five-seat SUV market, and is scheduled to begin delivery in the third quarter of this year.
It is also reported that this model is based on the NT2.0 technology platform, positioned between the ES6 and ES8. The model is as intelligent as the ET5 and ET7, and will be released this year.

The ES7 follows typical NIO design, according to some covert photos of road tests that were exposed. The photos suggest this model is longer in size, and has the same “watchtower” on the roof as the ET7 and ET5 – that is, a lidar and two high-level cameras, and a rear camera on the back of the roof.
As raw material become more expensive, NIO plans to raise the price of its cars. On March 25, the firm said that the 2022 version of its ES8, ES6 and EC6 models would be released in late May. The 2022 models feature major upgrades in intelligent hardware, such as 8155 chips, 360-view cameras and 5G modules. They could bring about much more excellent performance, as the upgraded models and batteries are expected to charge higher.
