Nothing Phone (1) Released in Japan
Last month, Nothing, a smartphone brand founded by Carl Pei, the former co-founder of OnePlus, officially released its first smartphone, the Nothing Phone (1). The phone was sold in Europe and some Asian regions and now, nearly a month after its first release, the Nothing Phone (1) has been released in Japan on August 10.
Nothing Japan said that reservations opened on August 10 and the phone would be officially released on August 19.
The smartphone will be sold in Japan through e-product stores such as Yodobashi, Yamada and Bic Camera, but customers could make a reservation online through Amazon Japan. The Nothing Phone (1) is priced between 63,800 yen ($479) to 79,800 yen ($599) in Japan, and above €399 in Europe.
The Nothing Phone (1) is available in three versions: 8GB + 128GB, 8GB + 256GB and 12GB + 256GB in the Japanese market. The company also provides many accessories, such as a screen protector, transparent protective cover and 45W power charger.
The device is equipped with a 6.55-inch FHD + flexible OLED OLED panel and provides a refresh rate of 120Hz. The phone runs on the Snapdragon 778G + chip. In terms of cameras, it has a 50-megapixel dual camera at the rear and a 16-megapixel camera in the front for selfies and video calls. The device supports 33W fast charging, 15W wireless charging and has a 4500mAh battery.

However, the Nothing Phone (1) came under fire recently. While the official page shows that the maximum brightness of the phone’s screen is 1200nits, numerous tests have shown that the screen measured a maximum brightness of less than 700nits. In response, Nothing announced its priority to check the issue internally. Interestingly, while Nothing has not yet publicly given the cause of the screen brightness issue, it modified the peak brightness from 1200nits to 700nits on the official website’s parameters page.
