Omdia: China, US and South Korea Rank Top Three in Global E-Sports Market
According to market survey results recently released by analysis and consultancy firm Omdia, the e-sports market with the highest income in the world has changed from the U.S. to China in the past five years.
Omdia’s data show that in 2018 the U.S. ranked first, China second and South Korea third, in terms of e-sports revenue. Since 2019, China has surpassed the U.S. and kept the first place. South Korea, Germany and Britain have been ranked third, fourth and fifth.
In addition, Omdia released a forecast for the e-sports industry up to 2025. In 2020, the top five countries account for 73% of global e-sports revenue. It is estimated that by 2025, this share will drop to 69%, and the lower ranked countries will gradually increase their market share of the e-sports industry due to the expansion of high-speed networks.
Market research and consulting company iResearch revealed in their 2021 China E-Sports Industry Report released in May this year that the overall market size of China’s e-sports industry will exceed 145 billion yuan ($22.54 billion) in 2020, with the growth mainly coming from the rapid development of the mobile e-sports game market and the wider e-sports ecosystem. It is estimated that the Chinese e-sports market will exceed 180 billion yuan in 2021.
