OnePlus 8 Series to Launch in Mid-April, with 5G Top Priority

According to multiple sources, Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus will launch its OnePlus 8 series in mid-April, with possibly a regular version, a Pro version and a Lite version.

Recently, two models that are suspected to be the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro have been spotted on the Chinese certification website TENAA. Based on the TENAA listings, the new OnePlus smartphones will support 5G.

Earlier leaks revealed that the OnePlus 8 will feature a 6.44-inch Super AMOLED display with a 90 Hz refresh rate and a Snapdragon 865 processor. Reportedly, the device will also pack a 32 MP front camera and a 4,000 mAh battery with 30W Warp fast charging feature. As for the upgraded model, rumors are the 8 Pro will be equipped with a 6.7-inch Samsung E3 AMOLED dual-hole screen with 120 Hz refresh rate and a 4,500 mAh battery with 50W fast charging and 30W wireless charging support.

OnePlus founder and CEO Pete Lau confirmed in an interview with CNET that some of the new devices will feature 5G connectivity. Lau also revealed the company’s $30 million investment in 5G research and development in a press release.

Lau said 5G is a top priority in OnePlus’s product strategy. The company has been investing in 5G for years and will further develop application scenarios based on users’ daily habits such as cloud gaming, cloud videos, and cloud storage.
