OnePlus Brings 5G Prototype Smartphone to MWC 2019
Looks like OnePlus fans will be getting a treat sooner than expected as OnePlus has announced in a press release that it will be showcasing its first 5G prototype smartphone at MWC 2019 (Mobile World Congress).
The GSMA MWC is the world’s largest exhibition for the mobile industry, and invites global mobile operators, device manufacturers, technology providers, vendors, and content owners to share their latest developments in mobile technology.
Fans of Chinese mobile company OnePlus will be able to experience 5G cloud gaming on the new 5G prototype device, which will be displayed at Qualcomm Technologies’ booth (Hall 3 Stand 3E10). The device has been confirmed to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset. No further information on its specs have been given.
According to the release, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau will be joined by Qualcomm President Cristiano R. Amon, and EE CEO Marc Allera, in a panel discussion led by Marisa Viveros, Executive at IBM leading Strategy and Solutions for Global Telecommunications, to discuss the future and possibilities of 5G on Feb. 26. The panel will be held in Hall 4, Auditorium 4, Gran Fira at 2:15pm CET.

“Our strong relationship with Qualcomm and EE makes us believe that we could bring the best 5G device to the world,” says Lau. He added, “Our mission to tackle 5G head on was decided together with our community members.”
OnePlus has also confirmed in the release that it will be the first to release a 5G commercial smartphone in the UK together with mobile network operator EE.
“Adding 5G to the UK’s number one 4G network will increase reliability, increase speeds, and keep our customers connected where they need it most. We have an ambition to connect our customers to 4G, 5G or Wi-Fi 100% of the time,” said Marc Allera, CEO of BT Consumer and EE.
OnePlus and EE has cooperated on an R&D partnership on creating the best 5G connected experience for customers.
