OnePlus Considering Spinning Off Nord Series as An Independent brand
Since Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus launched the Nord series overseas two years ago, the company has seen some success in many countries and regions with this series. However, a report from The Mobile Indian on July 5 showed that the company might be looking to spin off the Nord series as its own independent brand or perhaps a sub-brand.
Nord series phones are mainly low-and mid-range devices. It will operate as a separate entity in the future, with its own team and a minor brand change. Moreover, the new Nord series would replace the current trademark color with a lighter blue.
Further, the OnePlus branding would be removed from the spun off Nord devices, though the words “from OnePlus” or “a OnePlus brand” could be retained in some places.
There would also be a “budget flagship” Nord device priced at around Rs 35,000 ($189) and a super affordable one priced below Rs 15,000 ($441). In addition, Nord will expand its product range to smart TVs, fitness bands, smartwatches, headsets, and other accessories. At present, OnePlus has launched Nord Buds headphones and it is expected that this product line will continue to be updated in the future.

As for smartphone itself, future Nord smartphones will run a customized OxygenOS interface. If the company goes through with this plan, the brand may explore other offline sales channels.
