OPPO Announced Establishment of Research Institute to Advance 5G and AI
On the morning of April 4th, OPPO announced the official establishment of the OPPO Research Institute, with its headquarter in Shenzhen and other six other branches in different cities.

OPPO claims that this establishment aims to further the company’s technological innovation and research capabilities, carrying out core technology R&D and storage, and creating technological conditions for the company’s competitive future products. The OPPO Research Institute has its headquarter in Shenzhen, as well as branch research institutes in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Japan (Yokohama) and America (Silicon Valley). It will mainly conduct research in three areas: software, hardware and standards.
OPPO also claims that it would strengthen cooperation with universities around the world. At present, the OPPO Research Institute has already established an OPPO-Stanford Collaboration Lab with the artificial intelligence laboratory at Stanford University to explore cutting-edge AI technologies and applications. In terms of 5G networks, OPPO is already working with New York University, Beijing University of Science and Technology, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, as well as other universities and research institutes in technological innovation and cooperation.

The establishment of the OPPO Research Institute is a new investment in the company’s future apart from the existing R&D system. Through the interaction among different subordinate institutes under the OPPO Institute, as well as the flexible and dedicated outward research cooperations, OPPO will further enhance its own innovation capabilities, and strive to lead the development and application of AI, 5G and other technologies in smart terminals.
OPPO recently held an inauguration ceremony for the OPPO Institute in Shenzhen, appointing Liu Chang as the president. It also announced the overall structure and future domains of research.
Liu Chang, president of the OPPO Research Institute, said,
The OPPO Research Institute will focus on three areas of research – Software, Hardware and Standards, and conduct cutting-edge research on 5G networks, artificial intelligence, image processing as well as new materials and industrial processes. It will create technical conditions for the company’s products in the future.
Liu Chang also stated that the OPPO Research Institute will continue to improve its structural setup and talent recruitment. OPPO welcomes talents with a technical vision and a strong academic background from around the world. It will maintain communication and cooperation with scientific research institutes and top global universities.
