OPPO Files Trademark Application in Europe for OPPO Glass

OPPO has filed a trademark application in Europe for OPPO Glass, which is expected to be used in the first AR glasses. In recent years, OPPO increased its brand reputation primarily through developing innovative smart products, such as the Reno and Find series.

At the end of last year, during INNO Day 2019, OPPO had already announced a series of new mobile phones in development, as well as a smartwatch.

The smartwatch was officially launched under the name OPPO Watch, and soon after, a smart bracelet called OPPO Band was introduced. Meanwhile, OPPO announced to develop AR glasses, officially called OPPO AR Glass, which are equipped with two fish-eye cameras and supported by diffraction waveguide technology.

In addition, a third camera and a time-of-flight camera will be built in the AR glass so that distance can be detected. The augmented reality headset is also equipped with 3D surround sound technology, which will make it extremely suitable for AR games.

According to the company’s new trademark application, OPPO will reveal more about their first AR glasses soon. On Sept. 3, 2020, Guangdong OPPO Mobile Communications applied for the trademark “OPPO Glass” from EUIPO (EU Intellectual Property Office) in Spain.

The application process is now under the “waiting” status, and OPPO Glass is classified as Class 9, as described below:
Glasses; Smart Glasses; Computer; Virtual Reality Headsets; Computer software, Recording; Mobile Phone Download Software Applications; 3D Glasses; Wearable Laptop ; Glasses box; Glass frame.

The timing of the application speaks for itself. Such trademarks are often registered shortly before the official unveiling of the product. The public is likely to hear more about OPPO’s AR devices later this month. Equally striking is that the device was made in Europe, which could indicate that the AR glasses will make their debut in the EU market.
