OPPO’s strategic launch event comes one day before American technology giant Apple’s highly anticipated launch of its new iPhone 11 series on September 10 local time. Chinese phone makers are actively launching their devices in the latter half of this year in an attempt to secure a larger share of the market against global giants like Apple and Samsung.

The biggest highlight on Reno 2 undoubtedly goes to the addition of a fourth lens, strengthening the camera setup on the rear body of the phone to a quadruple camera configuration. Specifically, it’s rocking a 48-megapixel Sony IMX 586 large primary sensor, a telephoto lens, ultra-wide angle lens and a macro lens for taking pictures of subjects way up close.
The front camera is still housed within its shark-fin-like module that opens when the selfie camera function is launched. The pivoted elevator mechanism allows the phone to achieve a massive 6.55-inch full AMOLED display with an impressive 93% screen-to-body ratio for a more immersive and enjoyable screen for consumers to watch and stream video content.

Aside from the camera upgrades, the phone is also rocking a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 octa-core processor powering the various gears of this 8GB RAM and 256GB handset. Although this isn’t the highest configuration on the market for performance, Reno 2 is still a budget-friendly powerhouse retailing at 2,999 yuan (~$420), making it a viable option for consumers who are looking for a robust alternative to premium flagships.
The phone also has an upgraded 4,000mAh battery and comes with the company’s in-house developed VOOC flash charge 3.0, which according to OPPO, can fill up the empty can from 9% to 80% in roughly under 40 minutes. The blazing charging speed is one of the major features that many are attracted to, allowing consumers to worry less about charging phones overnight.
Reno 2 is available for preorders from September 10 and will go on sale across e-commerce platforms starting from September 20.
