OPPO & Vivo Top Chinese Smartphone Market
OPPO and vivo lead the Chinese domestic market in sales volume of over 73 millions in the first half of 2018.
According to Sino-Market Research Ltd., a Chinese market research company, OPPO and vivo sold 38.1 million and 35.5 million phones respectively, followed by Apple, the only non-Chinese brand on top seven list, with 32.1 million phones sold.
Huawei, Huawei’s Honor brand, and Xiaomi and Meizu follow the three to complete the top seven.
Huawei and its more youthful brand Honor sit at the fourth and fifth places with sales of 30.6 million and 28.4 million phones respectively. If sales of the two brands are combined, however, it would rank first with 59 million phones sold, 54.6 percent higher than the figure from the current leader OPPO.
The newly public company, Xiaomi, ranks 6th with 26.7 million phones sold in the first half of the year. These six brands constitute the first tier league, as the seventh place Meizu only sold 7 million.
In terms of total sales figures, Apple continues to dominate the first place with 172.7 billion yuan ($25.3 billion) in sales. It is followed by OPPO at 76.1 billion yuan, Huawei at 75.5 billion yuan, vivo at 69.3 billion yuan, and Honor at 41 billion yuan.
Xiaomi again sits at the sixth place with total sales of 34.8 billion yuan. Again, if Huawei and Honor’s sales were combined, they would climb the ranks to No. 2 with 116.5 billion yuan.
Chinese smartphone market is becoming more saturated, according to China Mobile Phone Market Report published by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology in June 2018 . The report reads that the domestic Chinese smartphone market saw the shipment of 196 million phones in the first six months in 2018, a decrease of 17.8 percent compared to the same time last year.
