OPPO, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Other Chinese Smartphone Firms to Adopt Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
During the Snapdragon Summit 2022, Qualcomm Technologies introduced its latest premium mobile platform, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. This new product is set to be adopted by many Chinese smartphone brands, including OPPO, Honor, iQOO, Motorola, Nubia, Red Magic, OnePlus, vivo, Xiaomi, Geely-backed Meizu, ZTE, and more.
Powered by Qualcomm’s AI Engine, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 provides groundbreaking AI integrated across the entire system. Fueled by an upgraded Qualcomm Hexagon Processor, users can experience faster natural language processing with multi-language translation and advanced AI camera features. This is also the first Snapdragon mobile platform to support INT4, an AI precision format, with 60% performance/watt improvement for sustained AI inferencing.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 automatically enhances photos and videos in real time with semantic segmentation, and it is also tuned to support new image sensors. It supports Snapdragon Sound technology for premium and immersive music, calls, and gaming, offering the latest in isolation, cryptography, key management, and attestation.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 debuts new Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, including real time hardware-accelerated ray tracing that delivers life-like light, reflections, and illuminations to mobile games. Gamers will also be able to experience photorealistic human characters in their games with the world’s first mobile optimized support for Unreal Engine 5 Metahumans Framework on Snapdragon.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is the first Snapdragon platform to support 5G+5G/4G Dual-SIM Dual-Active, which harnesses the power and flexibility of two 5G SIMs at once. This advanced platform also features the Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 connectivity system, offering the lowest latency Wi-Fi 7 and dual Bluetooth connectivity for sustained immersion.
Chinese smartphone maker OPPO took to the stage at the Snapdragon Summit 2022 to introduce its collaboration with Qualcomm in ray tracing graphics for mobile devices. Users can experience a fully optimized hardware-based ray tracing feature on the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Running on a device powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, with multiple ray tracing effects turned on, top mobile games can run at a steady 60 FPS while providing life-like soft shadows and reflections for the highest gaming visual quality. OPPO will use the latest mobile platform in its next Find X flagship devices.
In cooperation with Qualcomm and Google, OPPO has successfully integrated the hardware power reward into Google NAS for the first time. Through optimizations to AI algorithms based on specific chip characteristics, OPPO’s implementation achieves a 27% reduction in power needed for target detection algorithms and a 40% reduction in computing latency.
