At NIO DAY on Saturday, Chinese EV maker NIO unveiled its fifth model, the ET5, a mid-size electric vehicle. The vehicle will start 328,000 yuan ($5,145) with deliveries scheduled for September next year.

Consumers will have a choice of nine exterior color schemes, among which the Airspace Blue is the company’s preferred color sceme for 2022, while pink and yellow are exclusive to the ET5.

The ET5’s dual-motor system offers a maximum power output of 360 kW and 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.3 seconds. The EV has a drag coefficient of 0.24, thereby offering a range of over 550 km for the standard 75-kWh battery pack and over 1000 km with the larger 150-kWh battery pack.

The vehicle is designed according to the five-star safety standards of the C-NCAP and Euro NCAP. With 482.6mm height and ultra-wide wheel of 1,685mm, its anti-roll coefficient is 1.7, which exceeds the five-star standards of the NHTSA.

The ET5’s high-performance autonomous driving sensors are designed into the body of the vehicle itself. Equipped with the Aquila Sensing system, the vehicle features over 33 high-performance sensing units. Moreover, the Aquila’s 4 surround-view cameras, powerful perception ability, and ADAM’s powerful computing power, will bring easier and safer assisted driving to operators. The vehicle will also be equipped with 19 assisted driving functions.

Sound won’t be a problem either as the ET5 is equipped with 23 speakers and a 7.1.4 immersion sound system. The system features Dolby Panoramic sound technology which will create a comfortable and dynamic sound experience for consumers.

The vehicle features at least one other major partnership as NIO and NREAL, an innovative AR equipment company, jointly developed the exclusive AR glasses for the ET5. The glasses weigh only 76 grams and is currently the lightest mass-produced pair of AR glasses. NIO, together with the VR company NOLO invested by NIO Capital, developed a set of VR glasses, the world’s first high-performance VR device for cars. The VR glasses are equipped with an ultra-thin optical lens.

Deliveries of NIO ET7 will also start on March 28 next year. In 2022, NIO’s products and services will be officially launched in Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark. By 2025, the EV maker plans to be serving users in more than 25 countries and regions around the world.
