Three Dead in Xiaomi SU7 High-Speed Collision and Fire Incident
Officials have confirmed that three people died in a collision involving a Xiaomi SU7 electric vehicle on a highway in Anhui Province, China. The incident, which resulted in the vehicle catching fire after colliding with a central barrier, is currently under investigation by a special task force.
According to the Tongling City Public Security Bureau's Traffic Police Support Highway Third Brigade, the vehicle was towed off the highway immediately after the incident. The Tongling City Emergency Management Bureau has classified the case as a single-party traffic accident rather than a production safety incident.
A spokesperson from the Zongyang County Government Office, where the accident occurred, confirmed the fatalities. While the incident falls under the jurisdiction of the Tongling City Public Security Bureau, local authorities are coordinating in the investigation process.
Xiaomi's customer service has confirmed that the vehicle involved was a standard version of the SU7 model, one of three variants including the Pro and Max versions. The company has stated that they have dispatched a dedicated working group to the scene. "We will fully cooperate with the police and the victims' families to conduct a detailed investigation and reconstruction of the accident," a Xiaomi representative said. The company has also committed to assisting the families with subsequent matters and will release official updates as the investigation progresses.
Videos and images circulating online show the aftermath of the incident, revealing severe damage to the vehicle's front section after it collided with the highway's central barrier. The electric vehicle was seen engulfed in flames following the impact.
The incident marks a significant safety concern for Xiaomi's recently launched automotive venture. The SU7, representing Xiaomi's first entry into the electric vehicle market, has garnered considerable attention since its release.
As investigations continue, authorities have indicated that more details will be released through official channels once the special task force completes its analysis of the incident.
