Plus and IVECO Announce Autonomous Driving Test in Europe and China

Self-driving truck company, Plus and IVECO, the commercial vehicles brand of CNH Industrial, announced that they will jointly conduct automated driving tests in Europe and China, and will test the integration of the Plus automated driving system and IVECO’s latest generation S-WAY heavy-duty truck.

In April 2021, Plus announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with IVECO. According to the memorandum, IVECO’s latest generation S-WAY heavy-duty truck will be equipped with the PlusDrive automated driving system.

The first joint test will verify and demonstrate the ability of IVECO’s S-WAY series heavy-duty truck equipped with PlusDrive to cope with various road conditions and driving scenarios.

Plus’s L4 unmanned driving technology and mass-produced supervised PlusDrive system will both be tested, which will help to validate the design integral to S-WAY autonomous production.

Marco Liccardo, Chief Technology and Digital Officer of IVECO, talked about the deal: “As the only heavy-duty truck automated driving technology company in the industry that has started to deliver products to logistics customers, Plus has clear commercialization strategies. They first launched a supervised automatic automated driving heavy-duty truck, and then launched an L4 unmanned heavy truck, which coincides with our customer-centered concept of using higher-level automated driving and higher safety performance heavy-duty truck to reduce costs and increase efficiency.”

Shawn Kerrigan, Chief Operating Officer and co-founder of Plus, spoke about the developments: “We have always been stressing that the application of automated driving technology must undergo extensive and sufficient tests to verify whether it can cope with different types of weather, terrain and driving scenarios. This test project will comprehensively promote the acceleration of the mass production of automated driving heavy-duty truck.”
