Report: 31 Metaverse-Related Companies Raised $475M in Q1

A report by Cailian Press estimates that 31 metaverse-related enterprises announced new financing in the first quarter of 2022 (up to April 9), raising a total amount of $475 million.

Among these investments, most of them were seed round and A round financing worth less than $10 million. Xmov and Improbable raised $130 million and $150 million respectively, the largest two figures included on the list.

In terms of the investment institutions, Animoca Brands has made the most frequent contributions within the metaverse industry. In the first quarter of this year, it served as the leading investor for metaverse-related firms three separate times, and joined in related investments for four times. Yat Siu, executive chairman and co-founder of Animoca Brands, also personally invested in Space Runners, a metaverse fashion brand.

Animoca Brands just completed a new round of financing worth of $359 million in January this year, led by Liberty City Ventures.

The major investment direction within the metaverse field in 2022 appears to be games, involving a total of nine companies with a financing amount of $42.3 million. However, the technology field attracted the most of financing. Only four technology companies have raised $157.25 million in the first quarter.

Judging from the current investment trends, the number of transactions will not increase significantly in the next few months, but the financing amount may get higher. PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has predicted that the market size for the metaverse will reach $1.5 trillion in 2030.
