Microsoft’s Shanghai teams, primarily Azure cloud, face layoffs with an N+4 severance package and an option to relocate to Australia, part of a global restructuring cutting over 15,000 jobs since May 2025.

On October 10, 2025, employees in certain Microsoft teams in Shanghai received an email titled “Important Business Update,” signaling staff optimization adjustments, according to a report by Phoenix Net Technology.

The layoffs primarily target the Azure cloud business team, differing from July’s maximum N+7 package: current offers stand at N+4 with no additional signing bonus, and HR discussions are ongoing. Some employees noted a prior relocation option to Australia, with refusal leading to termination.

Windows Report reported on October 7 that Microsoft has conducted large-scale strategic restructuring since May 2025, cutting over 15,000 jobs, mainly in Azure cloud, global sales, and engineering.

A Microsoft spokesperson responded: “Organizational and workforce changes are a necessary and routine part of managing our business. We will continue to prioritize and invest in strategic growth areas to support our customers and partners.”
