Rokid Glasses Released, AR Glasses Enter the Consumer Era
On November 18th, the Rokid Jungle 2024 partner and new product launch event was held in Hangzhou. At this event, Rokid introduced a new generation of AI + AR glasses in collaboration with BOLON – Rokid Glasses, while also showcasing its rich content ecosystem to the industry.
At this press conference, Rokid launched its new generation of AR glasses – Rokid Glasses. This pair of glasses integrates AR technology with fashion aesthetics, marking an important step forward for AR technology into a wider range of daily applications. Based on diffractive waveguide imaging technology, Rokid Glasses are designed to pursue the ultimate lightness and seamless integration with the real world, achieving a comprehensive innovation from appearance to functionality.
Unlike the previous split design, the newly released Rokid Glasses feature an integrated structure layout, weighing only 49g. The Rokid product team ingeniously integrates core components such as the motherboard and battery into a thin frame, making the overall design closer to traditional glasses style, greatly enhancing comfort and portability for wearers. With support from optical waveguide technology, these AR glasses can display clear and delicate virtual interfaces through transparent lenses without affecting normal vision, achieving information overlay display effects and opening up a new human-machine interaction mode.
In terms of functionality, Rokid Glasses are equipped with a professional-grade camera with up to 12 million pixels. It not only supports high-definition photo-taking and video recording in portrait mode but also features a shooting status indicator light. When the camera is activated, the indicator light illuminates to indicate that the camera is in shooting mode. In addition, through deep integration of Alibaba Group Holding Limited‘s powerful algorithm capabilities from its Tongyi Qianwen large model, these smart glasses can easily complete various tasks such as object recognition, text translation, and even solving mathematical problems, providing users with an unprecedented convenient experience. For example, it can quickly and accurately calculate the calorie content of food and present it to the user instantly; or in cross-cultural communication scenarios, automatically capture conversation content and convert it into text prompts in the other party’s language in real-time, greatly facilitating communication between international travelers.
Rokid Glasses also have the function of receiving notifications and weather forecasts from applications such as DingTalk, making it an ideal navigation assistant tool. It performs excellently whether walking or cycling, providing users with precise directional guidance and broadcasting information on road conditions ahead. To further optimize the auditory experience, this product adopts a dual-channel high-fidelity directional speaker configuration, ensuring full and rich sound quality while effectively reducing sound leakage to ensure personal privacy is properly protected.
In terms of hardware specifications, Rokid Glasses are equipped with the first-generation Qualcomm® Snapdragon® AR1 platform, combined with 2GB RAM + 32GB ROM storage configuration to meet various complex application requirements. The introduction of Bluetooth 5.3 allows smooth connection to smartphones, tablets, and other external devices for expanded possibilities. Weighing only 49 grams, these glasses boast impressive battery performance; they can be used continuously for up to 4 hours on a full charge. The battery can be charged to 90% in ten minutes and fully charged in just 20 minutes. With a magnetic charging base design integrated into the glasses case for convenient charging process that is quick and easy – allowing the glasses case to charge Rokid Glasses fully up to ten times when at full capacity.
Qualcomm’s Vice President Chen Yong attended the press conference and congratulated the release of Rokid Glasses equipped with the first generation Snapdragon AR1. The first generation Snapdragon AR1 is designed to power lightweight and energy-efficient smart glasses, enhancing user experience and making wearing more comfortable.
The new Rokid smart glasses feature powerful performance, using a 14-bit dual ISP with various top-notch shooting features such as automatic exposure, automatic face detection, EIS electronic image stabilization, etc. They also support AI capabilities to enhance photo and video quality, achieve clearer calls through noise reduction, and capture clearer videos through computer vision. All of this is made possible by the Qualcomm Hexagon™️ NPU integrated in the first generation Snapdragon AR1 along with a dedicated AR-level computational visual module for low-power consumption and low-latency perception. In addition, equipped with health and motion sensors, users can trigger commands by nodding or shaking their heads.
In terms of glasses applications, Rokid Glasses will also integrate Alipay’s ‘AI Life Butler’ Xiaobao service introducing AI services like errands assistance and voiceprint payments. In the future through Rokid Glasses, users can summon Xiaobao via voice command to help them order food or hail a ride just by speaking a sentence. For example, if a user says to Rokid Glasses: ‘Rokid, order me a large iced latte for pick-up,’ Xiaobao can directly assist in purchasing coffee on behalf of the user.
Rokid Glasses will also introduce Alipay’s ‘voiceprint payment’ technology as an alternative to traditional digital passwords. In the future when users use Rokid Glasses for hailing rides or ordering food or scanning QR codes they can speak out the payment amount which will be verified through voiceprints enabling quick small-value payments without needing traditional passwords. To ensure security during voiceprint payments process Alipay provides deep AIGC audio anti-counterfeiting technology combined with hardware-software integrated control systems among other security measures while still allowing users to use traditional digital passwords or other payment methods.
