SAIC and Alibaba-Backed EV Brand IM Motors Begins Finalizing Orders

IM Motors, a premium electric vehicle brand founded jointly by China’s largest car company SAIC and e-commerce giant Alibaba, on Tuesday began locking in orders for its first model, the L7 Pro, with a price tag of 408,800 yuan ($64,220).

In November 2020, SAIC Motor, Alibaba and Shanghai Zhangjiang Group jointly established IM Motors with a registered capital of 10 billion yuan. In April of last year, IM Motors officially released its first pure electric medium-to-large car, the IM L7.

IM Motors is currently available only in the L7 Pro version. The model is equipped with dual electric motors for a combined maximum power of 425kW and peak torque of 725Nm. With a cruising range of 615 km, it can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 3.87 seconds.

The IM Motors L7 measures 5,098 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width and 1,482 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,100 mm. The model adopts air quality management to provide clean and fresh air for users. As for the intelligent driving assistance system, the L7 adapts the “NVIDIA DRIVE Orin,” including 5 millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, 11 high-definition sensing cameras, and two high-precision positioning units.

In addition, the IM L7 consists of two screens, namely, a 39-inch screen located above the central control board and capable of lifting independently, and a 12.8-inch 2K central screen located in the center of the front row. The resolution of the main screen can be as high as 4320*720, while the resolution of other screens can also achieve the high-definition display effect of 1728*1888.

Moreover, the IM L7 model enjoys a “CarLog” function, realized by three 48-megapixel cameras protruding from the roof. It can shoot 4K videos and photos, and can be edited directly on the vehicle system. When not in use, it can be lowered to optimize wind resistance and keep the camera clean.
