Samsung Electronics Responds to Layoffs in China Sales Department

On September 4, in response to news regarding the planned layoff of 8% of employees in its Chinese sales department, Samsung Electronics China stated that to enhance the company’s organizational efficiency and market competitiveness, necessary business adjustments and personnel optimization would be implemented. By reducing a portion of highly repetitive jobs and positions, the company aims to ensure better allocation of resources and improve organizational efficiency.

Samsung’s response also confirmed previous rumors of layoffs reported by Korean media. According to the Seoul Economic Daily, industry insiders indicated that Samsung Electronics China has recently informed employees about layoffs and has begun soliciting volunteers for “voluntary departure.” It is estimated that the layoffs may involve 8% of the 1,600 regional sales employees, approximately 130 individuals. If the number of “voluntary departures” is insufficient, the company will use predetermined criteria to select employees for layoffs.
