On Monday, Chinese electric vehicle maker Leapmotor released its Cell-To-Chassis (CTC) technology that integrates a battery into the chassis which leads to greater shock resistance and improved strength of the vehicle. The new technology, which will be made free and open to access by the company, will be put into use in its upcoming flagship sedan C01.

CTC technology eliminates the need for a separate battery pack so Leapmotor's C01 will become first vehicle in the world to not use a separate battery pack. The C01 offers better handling performance, range and collision safety thanks to the CTC Technology.

\n\n\n\n

CTC technology simplifies product design and manufacturing processes by redesigning the battery-bearing tray so that the entire lower body chassis structure is coupled to the battery tray structure, the company said.

\n\n\n\n

The company explained that the elimination of the battery superstructure increases the vertical space of the vehicle by 10 mm compared to conventional solutions and increases the battery layout space by 14.5%.

\n\n\n\n

In terms of battery life, the technology has better airtightness compared to conventional solutions and can improve battery insulation performance. It can also increase the vehicle's combined range by about 10% with the help of the AI BMS battery management system.

\n\n\n\n

To ensure battery safety, Leapmotor has carried out nearly 30 tests on CTC technology, such as bottom ball striking, crushing, and heat diffusion. Based on Leapmotor's AI BMS big data intelligent battery management system, the company can provide users with cell-level, real-time cloud-based safety protection.
