On Dec. 20, the Chilean Fruit Exporters Association jointly held a “celebration conference” with Pinduoduo, China’s largest agriculture e-commerce platform. Chile's commercial consul in Shanghai, Juan Wood, joined in the ceremony to promote Chilean cherries.

Pinduoduo live-streamed the event, attracting 460,000 viewers.

The Chilean Fruit Exporters Association is the largest non-profit trade organization in Chile. At the beginning of 2020, this association and Pinduoduo established a strategic cooperation. The two parties worked together to streamline cross-border transactions, enabling cherries to be directly imported from Chile to China, doing away with the previous multiple distribution sites and lengthy transportation times.

“Through cooperation with Pinduoduo, Chilean cherries have been welcomed by more and more Chinese consumers. We hope our high-quality and delicious cherries can reach more cities in China with help from Pinduoduo,” said Wood, Chile's Commercial Consul in Shanghai.

\n\n\n\n

“Pinduoduo will continue to bring fresh and affordable Chilean cherries to consumers. We will continue to bring more and more high-quality, value-for-money agricultural products to our consumers,” said Nick Shu, Pinduoduo’s Director of Corporate Development.

With the shortened distribution chain enabled by Pinduoduo, Chilean cherries can be delivered to consumers within three days after entering China. Pinduoduo expects that with the coming holiday season, the sales volume of cherries on the platform will reach a new peak, and the annual sales will increase by over 60% year over year compared with 2019.

Earlier in 2020, Chilean Ambassador to China Luis Schmidt Montes, and Pinduoduo Vice President Chen Qiu, talked during an official broadcast to discuss “millions of subsidies” and how to bring Chinese consumers the “creme de la creme of Chilean fruit”.

Established in 2015, Pinduoduo operates China's largest agri-focused technology platform, providing an online marketplace that connects millions of agricultural producers with consumers across the country. In 2019, Pinduoduo had a transaction volume of around $20 billion in agricultural products, and the company expects that to double in 2020.
