On Feb. 28, Cainiao announced that the first driver-less vehicle park in China was opened in Chengdu, Sichuan.

According to reports, Cainiao Chengdu Future Park expands over nearly 200,000 square meters. The park features a driver-less vehicle base and an Internet of Things networking system from which the cloud can automatically dispatch unmanned vehicles. The vehicles can then automatically access multiple warehouses in the park and transfer parcels and goods between centers.

It is reported that Cainiao's latest generation of unmanned vehicles is currently being placed in the Chengdu campus, and each car can carry hundreds of consumer packages at a time.

During the driving process, the driver-less vehicles can sense the surrounding environment and make decisions on their own. They can avoid various dynamic and static obstacles such as pedestrians and vehicles, and can also manipulate the traffic lights in the park to keep other vehicles in check.

Hao Ran, Cainiao's ET Logistics Laboratory expert in the application technology of unmanned vehicles, explained that the driver-less vehicles developed in Xiong'an and Hangzhou have not yet been put into service. Cainiao Chengdu Future Park is the first park of its kind in operation.

In addition, The Chengdu park also uses intelligent products such as electronic receipts, intelligent warehouse management systems, and the intelligent voice assistant created by Cainiao IoT strategy, providing intelligent support for storage, delivery and replenishment of goods. Cainiao can also provide logistics enterprises with real-time operation monitoring as well as helping the courier to automatically make calls to consumers and provide 2-hour door-to-door service.

Cainiao is a logistics company launched by Alibaba Group, jointly with eight other companies in 2013. As of May 2018, Cainiao is one of the largest unicorn companies in China, valued at 100 billion yuan.
