Chinese mobile phone brand Meizu announced on Friday that it has reached a strategic cooperation with Xperia, a high-end smartphone brand owned by Sony, which will enhance the application adaptation and localization of Flyme OS, a mobile phone operating system developed by Meizu based on Android, in the Sony Xperia 1 III and subsequent models.

In the current mobile phone industry, the operating system offers core competitiveness for smartphones. After foreign smartphone brands enter China, most of them need localization services because of the lack of the Google Store and corresponding system components in China. Sony mobile phone's browser or app store were previously provided by Qihoo 360 Technology and Tencent MyApp. Now Meizu's Flyme OS is to take over to provide the services.

In this cooperation, Flyme OS will be pre-installed in the Sony Xperia 1 III and its subsequent new products. Users who have bought a Xperia 1 III can choose to install the feature or not, to download some applications provided by the new operating system. During the strategic cooperation period, Meizu and Sony will further explore more areas of teaming up regarding the use of Flyme OS functions and applications on different products. After downloading and installing the system update pushed in October, Sony Xperia 1 III users can experience cooperative content such as the Flyme App Store, email, weather and information features, and feel the more comprehensive localization services brought by Flyme OS.

Flyme OS is a mobile phone operating system built by Meizu on Android's operating system, aiming at providing users with an excellent interactive experience and intimate online services. Although the sales volume of Meizu mobile phones ranks less than the top five in China, Flyme OS has been famous for its elegance and ease of use since its launch. Up to now, Flyme OS has many practical functions such as small window mode, OneMind and privacy protection.

As of 2021, the number of Flyme OS activated users has exceeded 100 million.
