Huawei announced on its official website the first batch of 18 car companies that will become part of its 5G automotive ecosystem.

The companies will include Chinese giants FAW, Changan, Dongfeng, SAIC, GAC New Energy, BAIC, BYD, Great Wall Motors, Chery JAC, and others.

Huawei's 5G has so far launched several products as part of its automotive ecosystem, including the Baron 5000 5G chip and a 5G + V2X intelligent communication system that has already been embedded in the new SUV model of GAC New Energy.

Recently, 23 technology companies announced the establishment of the O-RAN alliance, hoping to build an open source 5G network community. These include China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom, the three major Chinese operators, as well as DoCoMo, a subsidiary of Softbank Group, AT&T, and Japan Telecom NTT. Additionally, technology giants such as Intel, Microsoft, Facebook, Samsung and Tsinghua University also partake in the alliance that will likely become a competitor to Huawei in its global 5G ambitions.
