Chinese automaker BYD announced on Thursday that it delivered its first Han EV to the Lao Prime Minister's Office in Vientiane on Monday. BYD uses blade batteries in its vehicles, which can achieve an acceleration of 3.9s/100km and a drag coefficient of 0.233cd. The firm is believed to bring a brand-new driving experience for official vehicles in Laos.

Khamjane Vongphosy, Director of the Laos Prime Minister's Office, said that the Lao government will vigorously support the development of pure EVs in the future and introduce supporting measures. He hopes to cooperate more with China in the development of new energy vehicles in the future.

In 2020, the former Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith visited BYD's Xi'an Industrial Park, hoping to introduce more of the firm's new energy vehicles to Laos, which is rich in power resources. In order to lay out the long-term development of the energy industry, the government has been paying more attention to the new energy industry in recent years. In October this year, the Lao government announced that all government cars and new cars would give priority to pure EVs.

In May this year, the first batch of EVs purchased as official vehicles was put into operation in Vientiane, including BYD's E2 pure EVs. In July, the first batch of 28 BYD new energy vehicles, including 12 C8 pure electric buses, eight T5D vehicles and eight Yuan EV vehicles, was successfully shipped from China to Laos to help cope with climate change. In September, BYD formally signed a strategic cooperation agreement with LOCA, the largest online car-hailing platform in Laos.

In the future, BYD will exert its strength in the segment of pure electric passenger cars in Laos, and plans to deliver 100 pure electric passenger cars to Laos in the first quarter of 2022. At present, BYD ranks number one in terms of market share of pure electric vehicles in Laos.
