Nothing was established in the United Kingdom in 2020 by Carl Pei, the co-founder of Chinese smartphone brand OnePlus. To date, the Nothing brand has received a total of $144 million in funding. In August of 2021, Nothing launched its first product, the TWS headset ear (1).

Regarding the firm's upcoming first smartphone, the Nothing Phone (1), Manu Sharma, the vice president and general manager of Nothing, told the Economic Times that the devices sold in India would be produced in Tamil Nadu, India.

Manu said that the Nothing Phone (1) was the true beginning of Nothing's brand journey. Given the importance of the Indian market to the brand, it made sense for Nothing to manufacture the Nothing Phone (1) locally.
