On October 26, Taiwan media DIGITIMES reported that Wingtech Technology, the leading Original Design and Manufacturer (ODM) in the Mainland of Chinese, has successfully replaced Quanta, Hon Hai and other Taiwanese factories as the exclusive assembly plant for Apple's new MacBook in 2022.

Taiwan's Apple supply chain operators revealed that Wingtech Technology has already set up a production line and is currently in the initial stage of trial production. Wingtech Technology declined to comment on the rumor.

Established in 2006, Wingtech Technology was initially positioned as an independent design for mobile phone mainboard production (IDH). In 2008, it gradually transformed from an IDH to an ODM. Later in 2015, it was listed under the backdoor of Join In Holding Co., Ltd., becoming the first A-share listed company in the ODM industry.

As early as 2018, Wingtech Technology reached an agreement with Qualcomm to develop notebook computers based on its Arm architecture. In the past two years, the company has undergone expansion of intelligent manufacturing industrial parks in many places in an effort to continue to expand its manufacturing capacity.

Nexperia, a subsidiary of Wingtech Technology, is a supplier of power devices for Apple's iPhone. In the first half of this year, Wingtech Technology acquired the camera module factory owned by Ofilm, a former Apple camera module supplier, which was regarded as a preparation for entering the iPhone supply chain, but this time it was reported that it would enter the Mac supply chain.

According to Counterpoint, in the third quarter of 2021, global PC shipments increased for six consecutive quarters, reaching 84.2 million units, of which Apple Mac sales increased by 11% year-on-year. As MacBook shipments continue to expand, Apple may accelerate the release of orders to Chinese manufacturers for assembling the Mac series.
