The People's Bank of China (PBoC) announced on April 2 that several cities including Tianjin and Guangzhou will be added as new pilot areas for the country's digital currency, or e-CNY.
On Jan. 20, the third round of digital currency pilot testing, part of larger scheme to introduce the E-Yuan in mainland China, was launched in Shenzhen.
China is set to expand its digital currency testing programs to more regions and cities, including some of the country’s most developed financial hubs.
