Interestingly, this can be seen as a result of industrial competition. As insiders from the supply chain told reporters that Xiaomi's shortage of supply results from lacking an important imaging element, which is the 48 MP camera image sensor. The main supplier of the component is actually one of Xiaomi biggest competitor Korean smartphone brand Samsung.

As reported before, Samsung launched its flagship Galaxy S10 and S10+ a week after Mi 9's launch event.

Some joked that it's time for Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi to go turn screws at the factories referring to something he posted on Weibo, “if the delivery of Xiaomi Mi 9 in the first month doesn't reach one million, I will go to the factories to turn screws!”

The incident is an example of the fierce competition in China's smartphone market. According to data from IDC, the total shipments of China's smartphone market have declined in the past year, and Xiaomi's market shares have dropped dramatically. Apart from excellent industrial design and innovation, the manufacturer might need to accelerate its pace of production.
