TCL RayNeo Unveils Augmented Reality Glasses at CES 2023
TCL RayNeo, an augmented reality startup incubated by TCL Electronics, announced at CES 2023 its launch of the RayNeo X2 AR smart glasses that harness pioneering binocular full-color Micro-LED optical waveguide displays alongside an array of new interactive features.
Tackling the industry challenge of making AR glasses look like conventional eyeglasses without compromising on tech specs, TCL RayNeo X2 maintains a subtle and lightweight body for everyday wear while serving powerful all-in-one assistant features, from smart navigation and auto-translation to photography and playing music.
The smart glasses include significant display upgrades, including a high contrast ratio (CR) of up to 100,000:1 and outstanding image brightness of up to 1,000 nits, generating enhanced visual effects.
Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 platform, TCL RayNeo X2 harnesses a smart GPS navigation system and AI translation. Its hands-free integrated camera allows wearers to create stills, videos and time-lapse from a distinctive first-person view. Smart features like image stabilization reduce shakes and movement, and auto night mode lets users snap vivid moments even in the dark, helping them to take the perfect shot each time.
TCL RayNeo X2 will be available for the developer community in selected regions by the end of Q1 2023 followed by a commercial launch.
TCL RayNeo will kick off a developer project in Q1 2023 calling for innovative developers to join and build creative, user-driven features for the AR glasses. “With the rollout of TCL RayNeo X2, we seek to build a vibrant, comprehensive AR ecosystem to provide our users with rich content and compelling services. Those would include a series of original AR games developed by our team,” TCL RayNeo’s CEO Howie Li noted.
Li also shared a pyramid model of AR glasses products. The lowest level is glasses without many intelligent functions, such as a display. The second layer can be divided into “birdbath” technology and optical waveguide technology. The third layer is defined by the addition of AR functions. Birdbath and AR products are characterized by good display effects, but they are not so good with the integration of the virtual world and reality. Optical waveguide plus AR is based on the real world, realizing balanced display and perspective. At the top of the pyramid are AR glasses.
