Temu Officially Announces the Opening of the Market to European Sellers
Temu has officially started inviting European merchants to register as sellers on its platform. Merchants are responsible for their product portfolio, inventory management, and the shipping of sold products. Temu determines the prices of the goods and offers European merchants options to outsource a range of services, such as advertising and promotions. Additionally, it provides ‘extensive support, multilingual customer service, omnichannel free marketing, as well as business setup and training assistance.’
In April of this year, Temu launched a local-to-local consignment model in the European Union, specifically targeting sellers with overseas warehousing and delivery capabilities. This new model provides international sellers with further opportunities to open up the market. Starting in July, Temu’s semi-managed model has officially opened for registration to businesses with a presence in the EU, including companies from Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the UK, and the Netherlands. To attract merchants, Temu currently does not charge any basic fees or sales commissions, allowing sellers to promote their goods on the platform for free.
Temu’s semi-managed model was launched in March this year in the United States, targeting sellers with goods located in the local market. Sellers import platform orders themselves and fulfill shipments independently. In the semi-hosted model, merchants need to open a new store and choose the semi-hosted service, upload products and fill in basic information, while also maintaining inventory. They can skip the steps of product selection, sample submission, version review, and image review; the platform is responsible for refining product details, conducting price comparisons, listing products for sale on U.S. or European sites, and providing customer support for consumers.
Previously, the fully managed model meant that the platform took care of the entire sales process, including logistics fulfillment, product operation, traffic generation, and after-sales service. Merchants only needed to send their goods to Temu’s domestic warehouse, while the subsequent cross-border logistics and parcel delivery were handled by the platform.
