Tencent Music Adjusts Management: VP Dennis Hau Resigns as CEO, Liang Zhu Takes Over International Business
On Tuesday, Tencent Music Entertainment Group (TME) announced that Dennis Hau resigned from the group for personal reasons and Tencent decided to respect his decision following a discussion. This resignation will take effect on January 31, 2022. Liang Zhu, CEO of Tencent Music Entertainment Group, will now be responsible for the international business of the firm.
In addition, Tencent Music announced that independent director Adrian Yau Kee Mak will succeed Edith Manling Ngan as chairman of the audit committee with immediate effect. Ngan will continue to serve as independent director and member of the audit committee.
Cussion Pang, the executive chairman of TME, expressed appreciation to Dennis Hau for his contribution to the Group on behalf of the core management team. “In the past few years, Dennis has made great contributions to promoting the development and success of QQ music and national WeSing social entertainment business, helping TME become the leading online music and audio entertainment platform in China. During his tenure as the head of QQ Music Business Line, Dennis led the team to continuously promote the development of diversified music styles and content and constantly led product and technology innovation, including launching the ‘AI Prediction Model’ to achieve more accurate and efficient new song recommendations, cultivating QQ music to become a vibrant music social platform, deepening the interaction between musicians and platform users, and promoting the breakthrough growth of QQ music.”

Liang Zhu, CEO of TME, said: “Dennis has led the development of WeSing from an online karaoke product to a music social entertainment platform with ‘singing’ as the core function, including live-streaming, social interaction in karaoke rooms, and various social functions. In addition, Dennis has played an important role in the development of our IoT business and promoted the close cooperation between the Group and leading strategic partners. In 2021, after taking full responsibility for international business, Dennis led the international business team effectively promoted WeSing in the international market and laid a solid foundation for our future development in Southeast Asia.”
In June 2021, TME announced the upgrading of its organizational structure and formulated two core strategic directions of “content” and “platform,” under a “one body and two wings” concept of integrated development.
As for content, a new business line was established, which was under the responsibility of Cussion Pang, executive the chairman of the Group. At the platform level, in addition to the original three business lines: QQ Music, Kugou Music and Kuwo Music, a brand-new long audio business line has been founded. The business of all platforms above above will directly report to Liang Zhu, the CEO of the Group.
