Tencent NOW Live Ceases Operation and Is Kaken Down Today

On December 27th, according to the previous announcement, NOW Live, a live streaming + short video + social networking platform under Tencent, will cease operations and be taken down today at 11 o’clock. (at Beijing time)

According to the “NOW Live Shutdown Announcement,” the reason for the cessation of operations is “business adjustment.” Starting from December 5th, NOW Live will stop accepting new user registrations and cease operation on the web platform. On December 11th, the NOW Red Packet activity and NOW Live Active Task activity on the platform will be taken offline. On December 26th, users will no longer be able to continue using NOW Live products and services. Tencent provides asset migration or refund solutions for user account balances.

Tencent NOW Live was launched in 2016 and has been operating for over 7 years. Tencent NOW Live focuses on “pan-entertainment live broadcasting,” which encompasses a wide range of content including shows, entertainment, and talent. In order to expand NOW Live, Tencent has invested a significant amount of resources to support it. In 2017, Tencent held its annual strategic conference for NOW Live in Beijing with plans to invest two billion yuan (including one billion yuan in special funds and Tencent‘s resources worth one billion yuan) to support the creation of high-quality original content and reward its producers.

With the strong support from Tencent, NOW Live’s DAU once surpassed competitors such as Inke and Huya TV in the short term. Unfortunately, NOW Live did not ultimately come out on top.

Until October 2023, Tencent NOW Live App has also undergone updates.
