Tencent Suspends App Updates due to Regulatory Upgrade Protection Measures
According to a report on Wednesday by the China Star Market, a Chinese media outlet, rumors have been floating around that all APPs under Tencent‘s business will suspend updates for the time being.
Tencent, a world-leading internet and technology company, responded by saying that it is continuously upgrading its measures of its APPs to protect users’ rights and interests, and is cooperating with the regulatory authorities to conduct a routine compliance testing. During this period, users can download and use the existing versions of its APPs as per usual.
Since 2021, a total of 4 batches of 9 products of the company have been publicly notified about violations. The products have violated the requirements related to this year’s wind rectification in the information and communication industry in regard to infringing users’ rights and interests carried out by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The main requirements of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for Tencent are that its new APPs are to be released and updated versions of existing APP products should be tested by the Ministry before appearing on market. After the tests, qualified products can then go to market as usual.
