Tesla China Recalls Over 1.1 Million Vehicles

Starting from May 29, 2023, Tesla China will recall a total of 1,104,622 imported Model S, Model X, Model 3 and domestically produced Model 3 and Model Y vehicles manufactured between January 12th, 2019 and April 24th, 2023.

Recently, Tesla Beijing and Tesla Shanghai filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulation in accordance with the “Regulations on the Management of Defective Automobile Product Recalls” and its implementation measures.

The vehicles within the scope of this recall did not allow the driver to choose an energy recovery braking strategy. At the same time, there may not have been sufficient reminders for drivers who press down on the accelerator pedal deeply and for a long time. The combination of these factors may increase the probability of prolonged accidental acceleration and increase collision risks, posing safety hazards.

Tesla Beijing and Tesla Shanghai plan to use Over-The-Air (OTA) technology to push newly developed features for vehicles within the recall range, in order to reduce collision risks caused by excessive acceleration due to prolonged deep stepping on the accelerator pedal.

The functions include: (1) providing an option to allow the driver to select the intensity of energy recovery braking on vehicles that do not have this feature, (2) adjusting the factory default state of the vehicle’s energy recovery braking strategy and (3) issuing a reminder when the driver presses down on the accelerator pedal for a long time.
