Tesla China on Wednesday held a press conference to announce the official completion of the first supercharging station, which integrates energy storage and charging, in Lhasa, the “City of Sunlight”. The charging station can convert solar energy uninterruptedly into electric energy to meet the energy demand of Tesla’s cars when traveling in Tibet.
The theme of the conference is “Sunlight for Clean Travel”, reflecting Tesla’s values on environmental protection and sustainable energy utilization.
Environmental protection has been a major challenge in this century. With a world riding on the tide of fast development, tapping into new energy and reducing pollution are among the top priorities.
The special geographical location of Lhasa is the reason why Tesla chooses to build a supercharging station here. Located at an altitude of 3,650 meters, with average annual sunshine of 3,000 + hours, Lhasa is one of the cities with the longest average sunshine time in China.
Tesla’s supercharging station consists of a solar photovoltaic system, Tesla energy storage system and Tesla supercharging pile. The solar photovoltaic system can cope with a variety of situations and continuously convert solar energy into electric energy. The energy storage system is mainly used to store electric energy to achieve circular and efficient power storage and consumption. The charging station is used to transmit electric energy and charge vehicles.
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has long argued that solar energy will become the main source of clean energy for mankind in the future: “This is an ubiquitous nuclear fusion reactor hanging up in the sky. Even if you don’t do anything, it is there. It lights up on time every day, and it also releases incredible energy” .
Tesla has been trying to use solar energy. Tesla has announced the launch of “Tesla Energy” department in China, whose products include Powerwall battery and solar roof system, establishing a clean energy cycle ecological chain of “utilization, storage and reuse” of solar energy. Meanwhile, Tesla has rolled out a network of energy storage facilities and tens of thousands of pieces of charging equipment covering the power grids across the globe, so that more users can embrace clean energy.
Haida has signed a sourcing contract with Tesla to supply photovoltaic roof seals. Easpring Material Technology said on a social platform that the company is the first in China to export energy storage multi-materials, and its products have been used in the Tesla Powerwall project.
In Q4 2020, the company installed 86 MW of solar energy, a year-on-year increase of 59%. People involved said that Tesla solar roofs are expected to enter the European and Canadian markets later this year. However, in April, some users canceled orders as a result of Tesla having significantly raised the price of the product.
